BUILDING WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of total building work done rose 1.2% in the June 2018 quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of total building work done fell 0.2% to $29,280.2m in the June quarter, following a rise of 2.9% in the March 2018 quarter.


NEW RESIDENTIAL BUILDING WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of new residential building work done rose 2.1% in the June quarter. The value of work done on new houses rose 3.1%, while new other residential building rose 1.1%.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of new residential building work done rose 1.6% to $16,943.6m. Work done on new houses rose 3.1% to $9,064.7m, while new other residential building fell 0.1% to $7,878.9m.


NON-RESIDENTIAL WORK DONE
  • The trend estimate of the value of non-residential building work done fell 0.3% in the June quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of non-residential building work done in the quarter fell 2.2%, following a rise of 0.1% in the March quarter.

TOTAL DWELLINGS
  • The trend estimate for the total number of dwelling units commenced rose 1.6% in the June quarter following a rise of 2.0% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for the total number of dwelling units commenced fell 5.9% to 57,273 dwellings in the June quarter following a rise of 11.8% in the March quarter.


NEW PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSES
  • The trend estimate for new private sector house commencements rose 1.2% in the June quarter following a rise of 1.6% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for new private sector house commencements fell 3.7% to 29,929 dwellings in the June quarter following a rise of 5.3% in the March quarter.


NEW PRIVATE SECTOR OTHER RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
  • The trend estimate for new private sector other residential building commencements rose 2.8% in the June quarter following a rise of 3.1% in the March quarter.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for new private sector other residential building fell 6.6% to 26,702 dwellings in the June quarter following a rise of 21.0% in the March quarter.

This publication updates the preliminary estimates released in Construction Work Done, Australia (cat. no. 8755.0) on 22 August 2018. The data in this publication are based on a response rate of approximately 90% of the value of building work done during the quarter. The data are subject to revision when returns from the following quarter are processed. Final data for the June quarter 2018 will be released in the next release of this publication, Building Activity, Australia (cat. no. 8752.0) on 16 January 2019.

SIGNIFICANT REVISIONS THIS ISSUE

Compared to the estimate published in Building Activity, Australia March quarter 2018 (cat. no. 8752.0) released on 11 July 2018:
  • the total value of work done in Australia during the March quarter 2018 has been revised upwards by $729.4m or 2.6%.
  • the total value of work commenced in Australia during the March quarter 2018 has been revised upwards by $2,377.5m or 8.0%. This was driven by a 8.4% ($884.4m) revision to non-residential commencements and a 7.8% ($1,493.1m) revision to residential commencements.
  • the number of dwelling unit commencements in the March quarter 2018 has been revised upwards by 4,836 dwellings or 9.1%.

DATA NOTE
